Drug Trials Involving Pregnant Women and Newborns Posted

The following information on clinical trials involving women was posted on the Internet by the AIDS Clinical Trials Group.ACTG 185 - Drug: HIVIG, IVIG, AZT "This trial will compare HIVIG to IVIG for the prevention of HIV transmission from mother to fetus. The mothers will be divided into two groups. One group will be given IVIG. The second group will be given HIVIG. Both drugs are shots. All participants will also take AZT pills. During labor the AZT will be injected into a vein. Infants will be given the same treatment as the mothers. All infants will take AZT syrup as soon as they can take fluids for a total of 6 weeks.
