Missouri Insurer to Offer Immediate Coverage for Breast Cancer Treatment

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri has agreed to offer immediate coverage for bone-marrow transplants, a procedure it wasn't going to pay for until 1996. Frederic C. Brussee, executive vice president at Blue Cross, said November 1, 1995, that his company has changed its mind about paying for bone-marrow transplants in women who undergo high-dose chemotherapy. However, only members who medically qualify will get the treatment, he said. Brussee estimated that only three or four women would be currently affected by this policy change.
