Saline Breast Implants Not A Likely Source of Infection

Saline breast implants are an extremely unlikely source of infection for patients. Data from a new study was presented at the 64th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASPRS), held October 7-11, 1995, at the Palais des Congres de Montreal. The prospective study, which was conducted to help determine whether saline implants in otherwise healthy patients harbored bacteria, analyzed 106 saline prostheses in 67 patients over a period of twelve months.
