Estrogen Treatment Given to Postmenopausal Women Affects Their Balance

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 6th Annual Meeting of the North American Menopause Society, held September 21-23, 1995, in San Francisco, California, "Background: Bone loss accelerates after menopause as does the incidence in osteoporotic fractures among women. One reason is probably the loss of positive effects from estrogens on the bone remodeling system. Estrogen treatment decreases bone loss and incidence in fractures. Since the incidence in distal forearm fractures increases before bone loss can be visualized, it has been speculated that other effects from estrogens may prevent from fracture.
