Are Hot Flashes Related to Decreased Sexual Activity in Postmenopausal Women?

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 6th Annual Meeting of the North American Menopause Society, held September 21-23, 1995, in San Francisco, California, "A correlation between hot flashes and lower frequency of sexual intercourse has been reported, but the effect of hot flashes on other measures of sexual activity is unknown. We explored the relationship between hot flashes and three measures of sexual activity (satisfaction, frequency of intercourse, and perceived arousal compared to when in 40s) using a group of 206 women aged 56-64 who had a current sexual partner. Menopause status for the sample was 65% postmenopausal, 4% pre or peri, and 31% exogenous estrogen...
