Cervical Lactoferrin Levels are Elevated in Women with Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 1995 Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, held September 17-20, in San Francisco, California, "The introduction of DNA amplification has greatly enhanced STD testing. However, these techniques are expensive and most tests are negative even in high prevalence populations. Screening tests that identify patients at risk for infection and reduce the need for expensive diagnostic testing are needed. The purpose of this study was to determine if cervical lactoferrin, a neutrophil granule product, is elevated in women with STDs.
