Gender Differences In The Correlates of Late Life Drinking Changes

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 48th Annual Meeting of the Gerontological Society of America, held November 15-19, 1995, in Los Angeles, California, "Late onset drinker is a term applied to people who in later life begin drinking heavily in response to stressors of old age. Typically, late onset drinkers are formerly light or moderate drinkers who begin a heavier pattern of drinking in reaction to spouse loss, retirement, and/or health problems.
