In the June 1996 issue of the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, researchers from the Mayo Clinic and the Iowa Oncology Research Association presented case reports of six women who underwent partial mastectomy, breast biopsy, or axillary lymph node dissection and shortly afterward had clinical signs, erythema and edema in particular, suggestive of infectious mastitis or inflammatory breast cancer (Mayo Clin Proc 1996;71:552-555).
