Factors Influencing Differences in Breast Cancer Survival in Black and White Women

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 32nd Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, held May 18-21, 1996, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, "Previous studies have described poorer stage for stage survival in black women from breast cancer. However, it was unclear whether these differences in survival may result from prediagnosis care or treatment differences. To address the question of factors that influence differences in breast cancer survival for black women, we reviewed medical records of all black women with breast cancer at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute from 1980-1990 (n=162).
