New Lower-Dose Estrogen Patch Approved for Menopause Symptoms

A just-approved, low-dose estrogen patch for preventing the hot flashes of menopause causes fewer side effects than other patches, the manufacture noted recently, and as a result, it may prevent women who cannot tolerate the side effects from abandoning estrogen replacement therapy.

The FemPatch, developed by the Parke-Davis subsidiary of Morris Plains-based Warner-Lambert Co., joins at least four estrogen patches already available commercially. The FemPatch has a lower dose of the drug estradiol than the other estrogen patches.
