AD-Mediated Suicide Gene Therapy Possible Against Hepatic Metastases

Adenoviral (ADV)-mediated herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSV-tk) suicide gene therapy shows promise against hepatic metastases of breast cancer in a murine model.

Patients presenting with advanced breast cancer disease with distant organ metastases are incurable by current therapies. Even high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell rescue has not shown a consistent benefit.

Because alternative treatment modalities are urgently needed, researchers Yok-Lam Kwong and colleagues from the Baylor College of Medicine in Texas evaluated HSV-tk suicide gene therapy for the treatment of hepatic metastases of breast cancer in a murine model...
