PET Scanning Proves Effective in Detecting Cancer Spread

A technique for detecting the spread of breast cancer could become "the cancer diagnosis tool of the future."

Physicians at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio, have developed a non-invasive test to screen for the spread of breast cancer to regional lymph nodes, which could allow many patients to avoid surgery.

"This test holds promise for the thousands of women diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Many patients may no longer require surgical removal of their lymph nodes.
