IND Filed to Begin Clinical Trials

MedImmune, Inc., Gaithersburg, Maryland, announced it has submitted an Investigational New Drug (IND) application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to initiate human clinical trials with a vaccine for the prevention of human papillomavirus (HPV) disease of the genital tract.

The clinical trial, to be conducted at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, New York, will assess the safety and immunogenicity of the HPV vaccine candidate. HPVs are responsible for the development of genital warts and cervical cancer.
