Study Finds No Link Between Abortion and Breast Cancer

Contrary to previous reports, a recent large study has concluded that an abortion is unlikely to raise a woman's risk of breast cancer.

The new research, conducted in Denmark, is by far the biggest and most sophisticated examination yet of this contentious issue.

Earlier studies have conflicted, but taken together, they suggested that abortion raises a woman's breast cancer risk by about 30 percent. Those reports have been criticized, however, because they involve questioning women about whether they've had abortions, something some women may lie about. The new study gets around this by relying solely on medical records.
