Insurance Companies Upset About Contraceptive Coverage Bill

Insurance companies are expressing dissatisfaction about the cost of a bill passed by the Virginia state Senate requiring insurers to offer coverage for prescription contraceptives.

"We oppose almost any mandate because they automatically increase costs," said Brooke Taylor, a spokeswoman for the state's largest health insurer, Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield. "It's more an issue of whether you believe the person paying the benefits should make the decisions or whether the government should make the decisions."
