Cryosurgery Successful in Animal Models and First Woman Recipient

Based on successful small and large animal model experiments using ultrasound-guided cryosurgery of breast cancer, researchers have successfully achieved 100% tumor kill in the first human recipient of this procedure.

Edgar D. Staren and colleagues from Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois evaluated the feasibility and efficacy of cryosurgery of breast cancer ("Cryosurgery of Breast Cancer", Archives of Surgery, January 1997;132:28-34).
