Exploring Why American Women Are Fastest Growing Group

Over 1,500 scientists, women with HIV infection, and prevention and policy experts in HIV/AIDS gathered to explore the most recent developments at the National Conference on Women and HIV, Los Angeles, California.

To understand why women are the fastest growing group with new HIV infections in America and why AIDS has become the third leading cause of death among American women 25-44 years of age, the conference concentrated on three areas: basic and clinical science; behavioral and prevention science; and HIV policy. Opening keynote presenters included Congresswoman Maxine Waters and White House Director of AIDS Policy, Sandy Thurman.
