Wyeth-Ayerst Introduces Treatment for Absence of Menstruation

Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, a division of American Home Products Corporation, announced clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market Crinone 4%, natural progesterone in a bioadhesive gel.

Scheduled to become available in late 1997, the gel is indicated for treatment of secondary amenorrhea, the absence of the monthly menstrual cycle in reproductive age women who have experienced regular cycles in the past. Previously, the higher dosage strength of Crinone 8% gel received marketing clearance for use in conjunction with infertility treatment.
