WomenCare Clinic Provides Care to Female Community

About 20 percent of all women experience an episode of depression at least once in their lifetime, according to a mental health specialist at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF).

"Seventy percent of psychiatric outpatients are women and depression is twice as common in females as it is in males," said Ellen Haller, MD, director of WomenCare Mental Health Clinic, a new clinical service at UCSF. "There are many mental health problems that are unique to women, such as PMS [pre-menstrual syndrome] and post-partum disorders."
