Medical Advances Blurring Line Between Abortion, Birth Control

Women today can end a pregnancy before they've even missed their first menstrual period, and pop a few pills right after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy in the first place.

Medical technology has dramatically changed the nature of abortion since the Supreme Court legalized the procedure in 1973. As a result, abortion is much safer.

But medical advances also are blurring the line between abortion and contraception, as contraception moves beyond intercourse and abortion is offered in the first days of pregnancy.
