A Population-Based Assessment of the Cost of Osteoporosis

According to an abstract submitted by the author to the IFSSD-WHO-EFFO Social and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis Foundation Conference, held December 4-6, 1997, in Liege, Belgium, "Previous studies of the cost of osteoporosis have focused on hip fractures in white women. Using a 3-round Delphi process, a panel of experts convened by the National Osteoporosis Foundation estimated the proportion of fractures of the hip, spine, forearm, and all other sites that should be attributed to osteoporosis among men and women in three age-groups (45-64 yr, 65-84 yr and {{greater than or equal to}} 85 yr) and three racial categories (white, black, and all others).
