Biological Activity of Low Dose Tamoxifen in Healthy Women

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 89th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, held March 28 - April 1, 1998, in New Orleans, Louisiana, "Treatment with the estrogen receptor modulator tamoxifen is associated with an increased risk of endometrial cancer in a dose-related manner. On the other side, the antitumor effect of tamoxifen in breast cancer cell lines reaches a plateau after saturation of the estrogen receptor. Since a dose reduction could decrease tamoxifen toxicity while maintaining its activity, we studied the effects of tamoxifen at lower doses on a broad spectrum of estrogen regulated biomarkers.
