A March 14, 1998, 5-5 vote by a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel left the decision on approval in the hands of the agency.
A spokeswoman said the FDA is most likely to make a decision by May 1998 on whether the drug, Xenical, to be sold by Hoffmann-La Roche, a unit of Roche Holdings Ltd., should hit drugstore shelves soon.
