Contributions of Ultrasound in Diagnosis of Breast Cancer Examined

Ultrasound may be able to contribute in the diagnosis of breast cancer in addition to mammography, according to Dr. H.M. Zonderland and colleagues from the Leiden University Medical Center and Hospital Westeinde in The Netherlands.

In a presentation to the 42nd American Institute of Ultrasound In Medicine Convention, held March 22-25, 1998, in Boston, Massachusetts, Zonderland's team told their audience that they had wanted to find out how often ultrasound is of help in finding a breast cancer where mammography does not succeed, hoping that frequency in finding a breast cancer by ultrasound could clarify the importance of this additional tool.
