According to an abstract submitted by the author to the Conference on Medical Ethics at the Close of the 20th Century, held January 5-8, 1998, in Jerusalem, Israel, "The introduction of new contraceptive technologies (mainly the 'pill') has resulted in the separation of sex and pro-creation. The introduction of new reproductive technologies (mainly IVF and embryo transfer) has led not only to the separation of pro-creation and sex, but also to the re-definition of the terms mother and family.
