Epidemiology of Urinary Incontinence in Young Women

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 13th Congress of the European Association of Urology, held March 21-25, 1998, in Barcelona, Spain, "Prevalence, risk factors, potential treatment performed, and social consequences of female urinary incontinence are poorly studied among young women. We conducted an epidemiological study by means of an anonymous questionnaire administered to the whole female population (20 to 62 years old) working in a teaching hospital in 1996. 1,700 women returned the questionnaire. 27.4% declared the presence of urinary incontinence, 12.4% the presence of stress incontinence, 1.6% the presence of urge incontinence, 13.4% the presence of mixed...
