A Co-amplified Internal Control Eliminates False Negative Results from the TMA Amplified VIDAS Assay for Chlamydia trachomatis

Published in Women's Health Weekly, June 15th, 1998

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 98th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, held May 17-21, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, "The reliability of a test result based on nucleic acid amplification technologies is a function of both the amplification and the detection steps. We have now developed a VIDAS assay for the detection of TMA-amplified Chlamydia trachomatis rRNA sequences that includes an internal control RNA molecule. This internal control is simultaneously amplified with the C. trachomatis rRNA targets and is detected in the VIDAS instrument to indicate putative amplification failure and/or failure during detection. ...
