Doing More to Improve Pregnancy Planning by Diabetic Women

With proper planning, diabetic women whose blood glucose levels are under control upon conceiving have a much greater chance of having healthy babies.

Seeking to find out why, then, many diabetic women do not enter their pregnancies prepared, E.V. Holing and associates at the University of Washington in Seattle compared medical records and responses of 85 diabetic women with planned and unplanned pregnancies to self-administered questionnaires and personal interviews ("Why Don't Women With Diabetes Plan Their Pregnancies'" Diabetes Care, June 1998;21(6):889-895).
