Condition Requires Prompt Evaluation

While most ovarian cysts are harmless and will go away on their own, they should never be ignored, according to the July 1998 issue of Mayo Clinic Women's HealthSource.

Ovarian cysts occur most often during a woman's reproductive years, and usually they're nothing more than a minor annoyance.

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs or pockets within or on the surface of the ovary. Symptoms alone cannot be relied upon to signal an ovarian cyst, but here are some signs which may indicate that further evaluation is needed:

  • Fullness or heaviness in the abdomen;
