Physical Activity and High Blood Pressure: Black Women's Health Study

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 13th International Interdisciplinary Conference on Hypertension in Blacks, held July 12-15, 1998, in Charleston, South Carolina, "The Black Women's Health Study is a longitudinal study of the health of approximately 64,000 African-American women aged 21 to 69 years. At baseline, 12,839 women (20%) reported having been diagnosed with high blood pressure (HBP). Physical activity (PA) was calculated as an energy expenditure per week (Kcal/wk). The categories for PA were 'past year moderate activity' (PYMA), 'past year strenuous activity' (PYSA), 'strenuous activity during high school' (SAHS), and 'strenuous activity at age 21'...
