Alendronate, HRT, and Other Drug Treatments Discussed at Meeting

Dr. Bruce Ettinger (Kaiser Foundation Research Institute, Oakland, California) and colleagues from the MORE study group have provided evidence that raloxifene could achieve about a 50 percent reduction in the rate of radiologically visible vertebral fractures among women with osteoporosis after 24 months of treatment.

Ettinger et al. reported their findings to the European Congress on Osteoporosis, held September 11-15, 1998, in Berlin, Germany.

The trial is continuing to assess the effect of treatment after 36 months, but the MORE study, a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 180 centers worldwide with more than 7,700 osteoporotic women...
