Cost of Adding Contraceptive Coverage to Health Plans Minimal

The estimated maximum added cost of covering the full range of U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved reversible medical contraceptives in U.S. health plans that do not currently cover them is just $21.40 per employee per year, according to a new report by The Alan Guttmacher Institute. Of this figure, $17.12 would be employers' costs and $4.28 employees' costs. The added cost for employers amounts to just $1.43 per month per employee, representing an increase of just 0.6 percent in employers' costs of providing employees with medical coverage.
