Spironolactone is Effective Treatment for Acne in Women

Spironolactone effectively treated acne resulting from excessive androgen production in women with this condition. Spironolactone, 50 mg taken twice daily on days 5-21 of the menstrual cycle, reduced severity of acne in 32 of 38 women (97 percent), with the most common side effect being metrorrhagia (irregular bleeding between periods), reported Hanna G.
