Viruses Not Associated with Post-Amniocentesis Pregnancy Loss

Though the cause(s) of post-amniocentesis pregnancy loss remains unclear, a recent study has ruled out any association with intrauterine viruses. Amniocentesis, a genetic, prenatal, diagnostic technique, was introduced in 1966, and has evolved into a highly accurate and generally safe procedure wherein fluid is aspirated from the amniotic sac and used to diagnose possible genetic disorders in the unborn child. Post-amniocentesis pregnancy loss rate remains at 0.5 percent, however, reported Katharine D.
