An Unconventional Activity of Cyclin D1 in Breast Cancer

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 23rd INSERM European Symposium on Hormones and Cell Regulation, held September 25-28, 1998, in Mont Sainte Odile, France, "The estrogen receptor (ER) is a ligand-dependent transcription factor that is involved in diverse aspects of growth and development. Both ER and cyclin D1 are important regulators of growth and differentiation of breast epithelium. We and others have recently shown that cyclin D1 can stimulate ER transactivation in a ligand-independent fashion. This effect on ER was shown to be mediated through direct binding of cyclin D1 to the ligand binding domain of ER and is independent of CDK binding by cyclin D1. ...
