Do Lesbians Have A Higher Rate of Breast Cancer Risk?

Are lesbians at higher risk for breast cancer' The question has been posed at many gay and lesbian medical conferences and the issue has been explored in both the mainstream and gay press. But no scientific study had been reported until now.

In the current issue of the Journal of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, researchers presented data on the first study to compare breast cancer risk factors in lesbian and heterosexual women. And the answer appears to be a qualified yes. More research still needs to be done, but the results of this study indicate that there are significant differences between the two groups of women.
