According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the International Symposium on Ovarian Aging and Failure, held September 4-5, 1998, in Brussels, Belgium, "Objectives: To study the mechanisms responsible for the maternal age effect in mammalian oogenesis in order to detect correlations between maternal age, depletion of the follicle pool, and predisposition to nondisjunction, and to elucidate the significance of hormonal homeostasis, environmental exposures, genetic background, and size of the follicle pool for reduced fertility and premature ovarian failure.
