Women Under 75 More Likely To Die after Heart Attack than Men

Among heart attack patients younger than 75 years, women were almost twice as likely to die in the hospital following a heart attack than men, according to results of a new study.

In the age group 75 years or older, women had lower risk of death than the men.

Viola Vaccarino MD, PhD, of Yale University School of Medicine and her colleagues studied data from the medical records of 1,025 patients who met accepted criteria for myocardial infarction (MI) (Arch Intern Med., October 12, 1998;158:2054-2062).
