No Link Found Between Low-Dose Contraceptives and Stroke Risk

Women taking low-dose oral contraceptives are not at a greater risk of having a stroke, researchers asserted in the November 1998 issue of Stroke.

Ever since "the Pill" was introduced in the United States in the 1960s, there has been concern about the potential increased risk of heart attack and stroke associated with taking oral contraceptives. According to the study's authors, earlier research showed a significant, three- to five-fold increase in stroke risk in women taking oral contraceptives.
