Guidelines Promote Safer Anesthesia Care for Women in Labor

New, scientifically-based anesthesia care guidelines for women in labor were released at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, on October 21, 1998.

The "Practice Guidelines for Obstetrical Anesthesia" were developed by experts of ASA to reduce the incidence and severity of anesthesia-related complications, to increase patient satisfaction, and to guide anesthesiologists and other health care workers in providing safe obstetrical anesthesia care.
