According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 6th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, held January 31 - February 4, 1999, in Chicago, Illinois, "Objectives: To evaluate HIV-1 RNA load in paired plasma and cervicovaginal lavage (CVL) specimens among women enrolled in the HIV Epidemiology Research (HER) study. To assess the relation of genital tract HIV-1 RNA to plasma viral load (PVL), CD4 count, antiviral therapy, mode of transmission.
