According to the authors' abstract of an article published in Prenatal and Neonatal Medicine, "Objective: To evaluate subsequent reproductive choices facing women with prior gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and their impact on the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Research Design and Methods: The utility of postpartum carbohydrate tolerance testing and the effects of a subsequent pregnancy and of various contraceptive methods on the development of diabetes in women with prior GDM were assessed by a review of the current literature.
