Combined Analgesia/Anesthesia Technique Effective

Combined spinal and epidural (CSE) analgesia/anesthesia is safe and effective for use in laboring women.

G.A. Albright and R.M. Forster, of Bellevue Women's Hospital, New York, evaluated this technique by analyzing CSE blocks for effectiveness and complications, and comparing these to reported complications and failure rates for spinal and epidural anesthesia.

"This review of 6,002 CSE blocks performed in a community hospital has demonstrated that CSE labor analgesia, surgical anesthesia are safe and efficacious," reported the researchers.
