Danazol Offers No Advantage Over No Treatment

Though long-term postoperative treatment with danazol is effective in women undergoing stage III-IV endometriosis surgery, it shows no significant advantage over expectant management in these patients.

Women who underwent laparoscopic surgery for stage III-IV endometriosis were randomized postoperatively to receive either danazol 600 mg/day for three months or expectant management in a study by S. Bianchi, of the University of Milano, Italy, and colleagues ("Effects of Three Month Therapy with Danazol After Laparoscopic Surgery for Stage III/IV Endometriosis: A Randomized Study," Human Reproduction, May 1999;14(5):1335-1137).
