Folic Acid Fortification a Good Policy

Fortification of grains with folic acid, a policy mandated in the United States, is effective in increasing folate status, and may be successful at reducing the incidence of neural tube defects in newborns.

It is well known that adequate folic acid in a woman's diet is essential to protect any child she bears from neural tube defects (NTDs).
