"Obese Women Perceive More Joint Pain and Related Disability."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the XIV European League Against Rheumatism Congress, held June 6-11, 1999, in Glasgow, "Objective and Methods: To determine a possible relation between obesity and musculoskeletal pain in women, we have interviewed 400 healthy women from general population: 200 obese (body mass index [BMI] {{>=}}30), and 200 lean (BMI <27), ages 45-65. We evaluated besides the sociodemographic variables, joint pain perception in feet/ankles, knees, back and neck, and widespread pain (three or more localizations), pain-related discapacity and demand of medical attention related to it were also ascertained.
