OPG, a natural bone protein, had been shown effective in earlier animal studies to prevent the formation of osteoclasts, the cells responsible for bone degradation or resorption. Researchers reported their findings at the 21st Annual Meeting of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) held in St. Louis, Missouri.
