Timing of Surgery Has Major Impact on Survival Rates for Premenopausal Patients

A study published in the November 15, 1999, issue of Cancer provides compelling evidence that survival rates for premenopausal breast carcinoma patients are closely correlated with the timing of surgery within the patients' menstrual cycle.

The clinical findings indicate that patients who undergo tumor excision within the follicular phase (day 3-day 12) of their menstrual cycle experience significantly impaired chances for survival, in comparison with patients who undergo surgery during alternate phases of their menstrual cycle (the luteal phase).
