In Utero Repair Increases Head Circumference

Early prenatal surgical repair of spina bifida (embryologic failure of fusion of one or more vertebral arches) has shown to result in an increase in head circumference and cortical index (brain tissue).

Researchers reported these findings at the 20th Annual Meeting of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM), held February 2-5, 2000, in Miami, Florida.
