Complete Lymphadenectomy Best for Node Involvement

Physicians should be more aggressive about performing complete lymphadenectomies, even when lymph node metastasis is detected, say researchers at Leiden University in Leiden, Netherlands.

Such a policy could possibly have a beneficial effect relative to patient prognosis, according to G.G. Kenter and fellow associates.

Kenter et al. conducted a retrospective study of cervical cancer patients where lymph node metastasis was involved. Each patient had previously undergone a radical hysterectomy. Positive lymph nodes were found in 63 patients, study authors noted.
